The Michigan Council of the Blind and Visually Impaired (MCBVI) will hold our 45th annual convention October 5 - 7 at the Four Points by Sheraton in Kalamazoo. The theme this year is "Your Health and Safety: Part 2". Sessions this year will be dealing with your health and safety during emergency situations as well as other health concerns.
The Thursday night meet and greet. This will give everyone a chance to get together and relax before meetings on Friday and Saturday.
Sessions on Friday morning (that will be announced in the convention program). Exhibits on Friday from 12 – 5pm. Included in the exhibits will be the accessible voting machines. Opening session Friday evening at 7 followed by the annual auction.
Health and safety sessions Saturday morning. Business meetings Saturday afternoon, we will have elections if needed.

Sunday morning will conclude the convention with the annual Memorial service and a board presentation to be announced in the program.
All events will be listed in your convention program.
Again, this year we have on line registration! You can register and pay on line, or as before by phone or mail. See the registration section for details! Hotel rooms at the Four Points by Sheraton are $75 per night plus 11 percent tax. You must reserve your room by Tuesday, September 4 to guarantee this discounted price. Be sure to say that you are with the Michigan Council of the Blind and Visually Impaired convention to get this rate. Make reservations by calling 866-961-3003. MCBVI is not responsible for hotel reservations. Please consider staying all 3 nights as the guest room count affects our cost for meeting rooms.
The Four Points by Sheraton includes many amenities including deluxe guest rooms, free high-speed internet, indoor pool and much more. The pantry located around the corner to the right of the front desk offers snacks and soft drinks 24 hours, pay right there. Potter’s restaurant and lounge is open for breakfast and dinner. Note that almost all activities including meetings, exhibits, special meals, banquet, and hospitality area will be held in the Academy Ballroom which will make this convention easy to navigate.
Although there are other restaurants not far away we encourage you to participate in the meal plans as we have food and beverage minimums as well as needing 80 percent of our blocked rooms in order to avoid a much higher cost for our meeting rooms.
Convention registration is now open. Registration is $20 until Thursday, September 20 and $30 after September 20. The deadline for ordering the banquet or other meals is Thursday, September 20 as well. Those registering on site will not be able to order meals. This year you can register on line by visiting www.blindmi.org. From the convention page you can link to a form to register online and you have the option to pay online or print the form to mail. In order to cover PayPal fees, we need to charge a $3.00 fee for each registration completed online. You can also register by phone by calling the main MCBVI number, which is 888-95 MCBVI or 888-956-2284, and selecting option 2. You may also fill out the enclosed form and mail it to:
Sue Behler 3451 Navaho Dr. SW Grandville, MI 49418
Registration is not complete until all fees are paid. Make checks payable to MCBVI Convention.
In addition to the banquet, we are again offering options for lunch on Friday, breakfast and lunch on Saturday, and breakfast on Sunday. You may choose the individual meals you like. Cost for each meal, except the banquet, is $15 and must be pre ordered when you register. You must come in during the hours listed to be served, no refunds if you miss it. Food will be ready at the beginning of the serving time. Note the hotel restaurant is not open for lunch. A vegetarian option will be available for all meals. If you have special dietary concerns, please indicate that when you register. Please also note that ordering these extra meals will help us reduce the cost of our meeting rooms.
Please note that absolutely no outside food or beverage, not purchased from the hotel, is allowed in any of the meeting rooms or public areas. If you bring in food or have it delivered, you must take it to your guest room. If this rule is violated too many times, it will greatly increase the cost of our meeting rooms.
If you need an assistive listening device, please indicate on the convention form.
All meals are $15 except for the banquet. We are pleased to offer a lower price for the banquet this year, only $27!
